People are critically important for success of the Workshop, and
therefore participants are very carefully selected.
The faculty and teaching
assistants are chosen for their knowledge and understanding of
various aspects of molecular evolution, and, very importantly, for
their teaching skills.
The staff are chosen for their knowledge and
adeptness in helping set up and support the infrastructure for the
Workshop (e.g., computer laboratory, web site).
The participants are selected by a committee of
six scientists who have experience with the Workshop. Among the
criteria used in evaluation are knowledge and experience to understand
the advanced material presented, and the timeliness of the Workshop
with respect to use of the knowledge and understanding gained.
Admission to the Workshop is highly competitive and approximately 60 participants are admitted from a large applicant pool.
